We have prepared a custom Google Map with important locations saved: http://goo.gl/maps/9ZvcB
All events will be managed according to the rules set out by the Poker Tournament Directors Association (TDA). You may download a copy of the TDA rules from the Poker TDA website in one of several convenient formats.
For specific information about each event, players should consult the rules and structure sheet. This is available for every event in PDF format at the following address: http://playgroundpoker.ca/playground-montreal-festival-2014..
Yes, all players must be Playground Poker Club members to play. Membership is free and requires proper (government-issued) identification. Players may sign up for their Players Card in person at the club or online at https://www.playgroundpoker.ca/sign-up. Players must be 18 years of age or older to play.
The buy-in is $1,000 + $100 (i.e., $1,100). All prices are quoted in Canadian dollars.
Yes, the Main Event (Event 10) of the Playground Poker Montreal Festival has a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.
No, this event will not be televised nor live streamed on the Internet.
There will be live reporting (text and photos) of the event as it occurs that will be available via http://events.playgroundpoker.ca/playground-montreal-festival-2014/.
The Main Event (Event 10 of the Playground Poker Montreal Festival) is a “next-day re-entry” event. A player may play additional Day 1s even if he/she has survived a previous Day 1. If a player survives more than one Day 1, the player's smallest stack(s) (by chip count) will be removed from the tournament. Players may not re-enter during any Day 1 they have already played; they may only re-enter the tournament on a subsequent Day 1.
The pre-registration capacity for this event is 500 players per Day 1. If the 500-player limit is reached on any Day 1, alternates will be allowed to register for the event and take their seat if and when space permits before the end of the late registration period. In exceptional circumstances, Playground Poker Club reserves the right to admit alternates or players on the waiting list after the late registration period has ended.
Late registration is open until the end of Level 6 of each Day 1. Players who register late will receive a full starting stack at the moment their ticket is purchased. In exceptional circumstances, Playground Poker reserves the right to admit alternates or players on the waiting list after the late registration period has ended.
Yes, on each Day 1 of the event. There will be a 45-minute break following Level 6 during which time players will be served a buffet dinner. In addition, players may eat a delicious, reasonably priced meal from The Rail Coal Fire Bistro, served tableside, at any time during the tournament.
Live satellites for the event are being held held at Playground Poker Club every Sunday evening until the series begins in August. Weekend Satellites run at 8pm every week (the format alternates weekly between a $50 + $10 Rebuy/Add-on and a $100 + $20 Re-entry, with 3 seats guaranteed).
Please consult the Playground Poker Club Tournament calendar on the web for details.
Additional satellites to the Main Event are included among the events in the Playground Poker Montreal Festival schedule.
Yes, live sit-n-go satellites will be running throughout the series. Please consult with the staff at the Brush Desk for information or to put your name on a list.
You can see a full schedule of events on the Playground Poker Montreal Festival mini-site at http://playgroundpoker.ca/playground-montreal-festival-2014.
The Main Event (Event 10) is a “next-day” re-entry event. The same re-entry rules also apply to Event 1, a $135 + $15 No Limit Hold’em event with 4 Day 1s.
In these events, a player may play additional Day 1s even if he/she has survived a previous Day 1. If a player survives more than one Day 1, the player's smallest stack(s) (by chip count) will be removed from the tournament. Players may not re-enter during any Day 1 they have already played; they may only re-enter the tournament on a subsequent Day 1.
Except for certain scheduled satellites, all other events in the series are freezeout tournaments.
Each event has its own maximum number of players ranging from 100 to 500 players. Alternates will be accepted for each event (except for Event 2, which is a Shootout event) and Playground Poker Club is committed to getting all players who wish to play into an event. The specific player capacity for each event is published in each event’s “Rules and Structure” sheet, which is available on the web via http://www.playgroundpoker.ca/playground-montreal-festival-2014 (click on the “PDF” link beside each starting day on the schedule grid).
Late registration is generally permitted during the first 4 to 5 levels of play. Please consult each event’s “Rules and Structure” sheet for details.
Event structures (PDF format) for all events are available for download on the Playground Poker Montreal Festival mini-site (http://www.playgroundpoker.ca/playground-montreal-festival-2014).
There are no dinner breaks during side events. We invite players to eat a delicious, reasonably priced meal from The Rail Coal Fire Bistro, served tableside.
A “Shootout” tournament is a tournament in which players start on a particular table and must win that table before proceeding in the event.
Air: Fly to Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport, served by most major airlines. The airport code is YUL.
Train: Montreal is served by daily service on Amtrak (from New York City) and VIA Rail (from Canadian cities). The train station is named Gare Centrale.
Car: To drive to Montreal from New York State, Western Connecticut, New Jersey, and other points South and West, the best route is to travel to I-87 North and continue on Autoroute 15 North once you cross the border into Quebec.
To drive to Montreal from New England (Eastern Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, etc.) the best option is to travel to I-89 North and continue on Route 133 and then Autoroute 10 once you have crossed into Canada.
The best way to travel to and from Playground Poker Club is by car. From downtown Montreal, the best route is to take Autoroute 720 West (Ville Marie Expressway) to Autoroute 20 West and then follow the signs for the Mercier Bridge/Chateauguay. Cross the bridge and continue straight on Route 138. Playground Poker Club is on the right at the third traffic signal. There is ample parking for all players on site.
Alternatively you may take a taxi. Any taxi in Montreal will bring you to Playground Poker Club. It may be helpful to describe the route to a taxi driver in some cases – just tell the driver to cross the Mercier Bridge to the South Shore and continue straight to the third light. Playground Poker Club is on the right.
You may also wish to take public transportation to get to the Club. Take the Green metro line to the Angrignon station and then transfer to a CITSO bus (line 31 or 32), which will drop you off right in front of Playground.
Yes – here is a Google Map you may consult: http://goo.gl/maps/9ZvcB.
There are hundreds of hotels in Montreal at all levels of service and price so we are not able to recommend any particular hotel. If you consult a travel site to choose a hotel, concentrate on Downtown, Old Montreal, or possibly the Airport area to find suitable accommodations.
There are a few options.
When you purchase your ticket directly from Playground Poker Club for any event you will be given a receipt with your seating assignment. Please present this receipt and valid photo ID to the dealer at the assigned table to receive your starting chip stack. If you have not purchased your ticket in person at the club, we will hold your receipt for you. When you get to Playground Poker Club, simply go to the cashier/cage with ID to receive the original copy of your receipt(s).
Your original receipt serves as a seating ticket and must be given to the dealer in order for a player to start a tournament. We will be happy to provide players with a duplicate receipt for their records – just ask a tournament floor manager at any time and they will print the duplicate and bring it to you.
Registration for all events is open now.
No, event registrations (including live satellite seats) are non-refundable but they are transferrable. Players wishing to transfer their registration should contact the cashier at Playground Poker Club. Transfers are free. Seats won via online satellites are NOT transferrable.
Please send an email to email@example.com to arrange a wire transfer. Our representatives will walk you through the process to ensure that you are able to successfully buy in to the tournaments you wish to play.
US$ will be bought at a competitive house rate. NOTE that this rate is different than the Bank of Canada rate or institutional rates published on most Foreign Exchange sites. Please call the cashier at any time to enquire about the current rate.
No, unfortunately this is not possible. The currency used at Playground Poker Club is Canadian dollars, and all prize payouts will be made in Canadian dollars.
No, players who cash in any event will receive a coupon for the full amount of the prize at the tournament desk. These coupons must be redeemed for cash at the Playground Poker Club cashier. There are no withholdings from the amount of the prize awarded. Players are responsible for any taxes they may owe based on residency or nationality but Playground Poker Club is not involved in any way with such reporting or remittance.
Yes, as is the case with almost all events of this scale around the world, Playground Poker Club withholds 3% of the total prize pool of every event for staff gratuities. This withholding is taken before the final payouts are awarded, so players will receive the full amount listed on their prize coupon.
Yes, we will have a full range of cash games running 24 hours a day during the series (as is the case 365 days a year).
Playground Poker Club routinely spreads No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha-Hold’em mixed games. We also have dealers who are trained in many other variants of poker including stud and lowball games as well as more extensive mixed games.
We normally spread No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha games at the following stakes: $1-$2, $1-$3, $2-$5, $5-$5, $5-$10, $10-$25. During larger events such as poker seriess we often spread games at higher stakes. Maximum buy-in amounts vary depending on the stakes, and in small stakes games we often open “deep” variants with higher buy-in limits. Players who wish to open games at stakes that differ from what is currently running are encouraged to ask the Floor Managers to start an interest list.
